NEW POINTS FOR FORMULA RACING

19 July 2023

There was drama during the second round of the European Le Mans Series at Paul Ricard, where Formula Racing managed to secure new championship points. The circumstances of the European Le Mans Series meant that a strong eighth place secured the team another championship point at Paul Ricard. "It obviously wasn't our weekend. We got off to a good start, but a small collision with a competitor and a subsequent drive-through penalty unfortunately sent us out of the race for a top result. In addition to that, the team delivered maximum on all parameters and we know what we need to work on to come back stronger," said Formula Racing Team Principal Allan Jorgensen. It was Johnny Laursen (owner) who started the four-hour race from fourth place after a strong qualifying. After two periods, Conrad Laursen took over the Danish Ferrari 488 GTE #50, after which Nicklas Nielsen drove the car to the finish line – just 0.021 seconds from the nearest competitor. "We couldn't find our rhythm today and an eighth-place finish ended up being the best we could take home. Some weekends are tougher than others, and we'll come back stronger. It was great to have the opportunity to be back in the team again. A Danish car in an international championship is always big and there is a positive energy around the team, which I look forward to experiencing again. I had a collision with a competitor, which affected our race. Too bad, because we were immediately strong in training and qualifying, and if you correct for the success that was imposed on us after the podium result in the season opener, we had the speed to fight at the top. Fortunately, we still managed to bring home some points and with four rounds to go we certainly haven't given up our belief in a championship title. "We were quite optimistic before the start, but unfortunately we couldn't make it work in the race itself. In addition to our time penalty, the car had sustained some minor damage, making it more difficult to execute. On the positive side, we are fully aware of where we need to correct and improve to come back stronger in the next department," says Conrad Laursen. With eighth place on Paul Ricard, Formula Racing falls from second to fifth in the preliminary championship table – just eight points away from the leaders. The third round of the European Le Mans Series will be played at Spain's MotorLand Aragón on August 25-26.
